tim walker + cake

I keep returning to this self-portrait-with-cakes of UK photographer Tim Walker in British Vogue, June 2008. Krisatomic has great images of his recent exhibition at The Design Centre here.

Colyn, that's amazing! I love this image, and I wondered who made the cakes, and how they managed them all at once. Did you know what they were going to be used for? They look fantastic (my favourite is the one right up near the ceiling...).

They were for a photo shoot for Italian Vogue and a company called "Coin", it took me 2 days to make (even my two kids helped, check out the cup cakes)...
The theme of the shoot had to be "tea time cakes" with the request of pastel colours.
during the making of the cakes, Tim turned up at my bakery, walked in and basically said "perfect" and walked out...
the Coin adverts did go ahead and i have seen the end results with the models (this was on their web site), but from what i was told, Tim set them all up in the bedroom and was not pleased with the shoot with the models, so got into bed himself, and thats how it came about...
As it happens, i have the polaroid proof on my fridge...
And the cake you like, a very nice chocolate cake with buttercream and chocolate flakes...

kind regards
Colyn
